Lacey Giving Birth to Vicky — 2005

Ivory Lace, now owned by Kathie Thoennes, demonstrates how easily Alpacas give birth. Alpacas typically birth unaided, typically in the morning; and the cria stands with one hour and nurses within two hours. Watch Victorian Lace make her debut.

Just beginning to make her entrance

What's going on back there?

Once the head comes out, crias frequently talk to their moms.

The other females come to check out the new arrival.

Vicky is trying to stand up for the first time.

Standing up is hard work for a cria.

Finally, Vicky makes it to her feet.

Walking, though, is not so easy at first.

After all that hard work, it's finally time for a meal!
